Jakarta – President-elect Prabowo Subianto, who will serve from 2024 to 2029, received a phone call from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Wednesday (1/5). During the conversation, Justin congratulated Prabowo on his victory and discussed the future collaboration between Canada and Indonesia.
“I am delighted to congratulate you on your impressive win in the recent election. I am very pleased,” said Justin.
Prabowo thanked Justin for the congratulatory message and expressed his admiration for Justin’s father, Pierre Trudeau, as well as his approval of Justin’s current leadership.
“Thank you, sir. I am honored to receive your call personally. I have always respected your father, and I commend your leadership. I am excited to work with you,” Prabowo responded.
During their conversation, Justin and Prabowo discussed various topics of mutual interest to strengthen the bilateral relationship between Canada and Indonesia, particularly focusing on their strong economic connections.
Both leaders reiterated their support for the ongoing talks regarding the Canada-Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, and they are looking forward to the Canadian Trade Mission to Indonesia later this year.
Furthermore, they talked about Canada’s Indo-Pacific strategy and explored opportunities for collaboration in the crucial minerals sector.
“Trudeau aims to enhance the partnership between Canada and Indonesia once President-elect Prabowo Subianto assumes office in October,” according to a statement from the Canadian Prime Minister’s office.
