Prabowo Subianto discusses democracy in his leadership at Qatar Economic Forum and receives applause

Doha – The President-elect of Indonesia for the 2024-2029 period, Prabowo Subianto, accompanied by the Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka, attended the Qatar Economic Forum in Doha on Wednesday, April 15, 2024.

During the forum, Prabowo, who was a speaker, shared his vision for his upcoming leadership style.

He emphasized that he would remain true to himself in his efforts to bring prosperity to the people of Indonesia.

Prabowo stated, “I will be true to myself, sincerely. That means being faithful to principles, values, ideals as a patriot. My core value is the welfare of my people. My people must be safe, should not be hungry, and must have a good life. That is the dream of every patriot in every country in the world.”

Additionally, Prabowo made it clear that his previous military background would not impact his governance, particularly in relation to democratic principles.

He asserted, “You know, I have been out of the military for perhaps more than 25 years. So, what you call militaristic, I think it’s irrelevant, it has nothing to do with anything.”

Prabowo also addressed concerns about democracy by highlighting his past electoral experiences in Indonesia.

He said, “Regarding democracy, why not ask the Indonesian people? I have participated in the election contest four times and asked for the approval of the Indonesian people three times. They did not give me their approval. This time they did. Where is the concern for democracy? In my view, it’s fabricated by a few. So, I will work very hard not to disappoint my people. The legacy we want to leave is a good name, a good name in the history of our country,” which received applause from the audience.

Prabowo expressed his genuine willingness to enhance the welfare of the Indonesian population through his leadership.

He shared, “I was raised in many countries and I have seen many of them very poor. In my heart, I cannot accept that in today’s age. Indonesia is a G20 member. Indonesia is the fourth most populous country in the world. Many of my people still live very, very difficult lives. And that is what drives me. I want to do my part. I want to contribute with my insight and my experience in my leadership. I believe I can contribute a lot to improving the lives of my people.”
