Prabowo Subianto Reveals Government Focus on Food, Energy, and Downstreaming at Qatar Economic Forum

Doha, Qatar — Prabowo Subianto, the President-elect for the period 2024-2029, highlighted the significance of establishing a solid foundation for national development at the Qatar Economic Forum in Doha, Qatar from May 14 to 16, 2024.

During his discussion with Haslinda Amin, the Southeast Asia International Correspondent for Bloomberg, Prabowo reiterated that nation-building is an ongoing process and acknowledged the groundwork laid by President Joko Widodo for future progress.

Prabowo stated, “As you know, nation-building is a long-term process. President Joko Widodo has laid a strong foundation. I am committed to building upon that foundation, with my primary focus on food security.”

When questioned about his top priorities, Prabowo stressed the importance of achieving self-reliance and security in food and energy sectors.

“My main focus is food security. Indonesia must attain food self-sufficiency, followed by energy resilience and sufficiency. We are resolute in eradicating poverty through a massive campaign and effort,” he added.

Furthermore, Prabowo pledged to address nutrition issues among Indonesian children by implementing a free lunch program to combat hunger.

In terms of funding for this initiative, Prabowo noted Indonesia’s tradition of cautious fiscal management and assured a more efficient and bold approach under his leadership, emphasizing good governance.

Additionally, Prabowo committed to upholding the policy of industrial downstreaming to enhance added value and reduce imports of industrial goods, emphasizing the need for Indonesia to evolve into an advanced industrial nation.

Prabowo affirmed that his agenda is a tangible step towards sustainable prosperity for Indonesia, underscoring the importance of international collaboration.

At the event, Prabowo was accompanied by the Vice President-elect for 2024-2029, Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
