Prabowo Subianto, the Minister of Defense of Indonesia and the president-elect, referred to Russia as a ‘good friend’ and expressed his desire to continue maintaining good relations.
“It must be remembered that Russia has helped us (Indonesia) in many aspects when we faced difficulties. Russia helped us at that time,” said Prabowo during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, Russia, on Wednesday (31/7).
He added that Russia has also assisted Indonesia in building defense and military strength. As the Minister of Defense, Prabowo specifically mentioned that he has experienced the benefits of good cooperation between Indonesia and Russia.
“And I came here to emphasize that this relationship will continue when I officially assume the presidency of Indonesia on October 20,” he continued.
Furthermore, Prabowo mentioned that he has engaged in intensive communication and discussions with Putin’s team, particularly regarding the defense industry.
“I also met with senior officials in your industry, in the defense industry, and have been intensively discussing over the past few months about the roadmap for enhancing cooperation between us (Indonesia) and Russia,” concluded Prabowo.
