Jakarta – Prabowo Subianto, President-elect, expressed his sadness regarding the habit of Indonesians insulting each other, especially when the insults are directed towards leaders without considering their contributions.
“I feel sad if we have a culture of constantly belittling and insulting our leaders,” Prabowo said during the closing of the 3rd Congress of the National Democrat Party (NasDem) at JCC, Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday, August 27.
He praised President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi) achievements, mentioning that Jokowi’s leadership has gained admiration from many countries, especially for maintaining inflation at 2.5%.
“Just think, where else can you see that? In the past three years, only a few countries have achieved this. And this success did not happen by chance,” he added.
Prabowo also emphasized how Indonesia swiftly recovered from the Covid-19 pandemic under Jokowi’s leadership. He stressed that this achievement is significant and not something that happened coincidentally.
“I am not defending anyone, but I will speak the truth, whether it’s right or wrong,” he clarified.
In front of NasDem members, Prabowo also expressed his gratitude to the party for supporting his administration. He hoped that unity would be maintained in the effort to develop the nation.
“So, once again, thank you to NasDem for standing by me. We are united, we are working together, and we will show that we are willing and able to unite for the people of Indonesia,” Prabowo concluded. (RR)
