Prabowo Subianto, the Indonesian Defense Minister and future President for the years 2024-2029, recently met with Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Saturday, September 7. The two leaders, who have a longstanding friendship, discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations between Indonesia and Malaysia.
Prior to this meeting, Prabowo also met with the King of Malaysia, Sultan Ibrahim. During their discussions, Prabowo and Anwar both expressed their commitment to strengthening the ongoing cooperation between their two neighboring countries.
In a statement, Prabowo reiterated Indonesia’s dedication to fostering a harmonious and mutually beneficial defense relationship with Malaysia. He also personally invited Anwar to attend his presidential inauguration, scheduled for October in Jakarta.
Anwar, in response, expressed his joy at meeting his longtime friend and congratulated Prabowo on his election as Indonesia’s next president. Anwar accepted the invitation to the inauguration and shared his excitement on his official Instagram account, @anwaribrahim_my.
During the meeting, Anwar highlighted his determination to further enhance cooperation between Indonesia and Malaysia. He emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations and reaffirmed their commitment to regional cooperation within ASEAN.
