Vincencia Toma, a resident of Radamata Village in Kota Tambulaka District, South West Sumba, has been positively impacted by the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program. As a pregnant mother with a four-year-old child, Vincencia shared how the program has improved their daily meals. Previously, they had to make do with whatever they could find for breakfast, but since participating in the MBG program, her child now enjoys and finishes every meal provided. Over the past nine days, Vincencia has noticed the delicious taste and nutritional value of the meals for her child, leading to better eating habits for her family and easier food management throughout the day.
With Vincencia being nine months pregnant, she is one of the many pregnant and breastfeeding mothers benefiting from the MBG nutrition service kitchens in her village. She commended the government for offering free and nutritious food to rural mothers and children, ensuring that kids receive meals rich in protein and variety. Vincencia expressed her desire for the program to continue, recognizing its positive impact on community health.
Administered by the Tambolaka Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG), the MBG program in Southwest Sumba focuses on providing meals to schools, health posts, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and toddlers. By incorporating locally sourced ingredients and emphasizing balanced nutrition, the program addresses health challenges and aims to reduce stunting rates in the region. Vincencia’s story reflects how the MBG program is making a significant difference in the lives of families in South West Sumba.
