The President of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, recently made a visit to Saudi Arabia on July 2–3, 2025, with the aim of strengthening cooperation to enhance services for Indonesian pilgrims during their Hajj and Umrah journeys. During his visit, President Prabowo met with Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah. The meeting was an opportunity for President Prabowo to express his appreciation for the Saudi government’s dedication to serving pilgrims from various countries, especially Indonesia.
The discussions during the meeting focused on the collaborative efforts of both countries to ensure the safety and comfort of Indonesian pilgrims throughout their religious activities. They both agreed to further improve the quality of services provided to Indonesian pilgrims in the upcoming Hajj seasons, showing a mutual commitment to facilitating a seamless pilgrimage experience.
Aside from matters related to the Hajj, strategic agreements were also made to strengthen bilateral relations. The Saudi–Indonesia Supreme Coordination Council, co-chaired by the Crown Prince and President Prabowo, emphasized the expansion of cooperation in trade, investment, energy, and technology. The two countries have a significant bilateral trade volume, reaching approximately USD 31.5 billion over the past five years.
Furthermore, agreements and memoranda of understanding were signed to boost private sector investments, totaling around USD 27 billion. These investments are expected to generate job opportunities in Indonesia, particularly in sectors such as energy, industrial development, and sustainable technology.
Moreover, both leaders highlighted the significance of cooperation in the health sector, particularly in meeting the medical requirements of Hajj and Umrah pilgrims. They also discussed the advancement of the pharmaceutical and vaccine industries and the enhancement of healthcare workforce capacity.
In terms of international relations, President Prabowo and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reiterated their commitment to supporting peaceful conflict resolutions in the region. They stressed their endorsement of a two-state solution for Palestine and emphasized the crucial role of international humanitarian organizations in promoting peace and stability.
This visit showcased the substantial and growing partnership between Saudi Arabia and Indonesia across a variety of sectors, underscoring their joint efforts to enhance services for Indonesian pilgrims and deepen cooperation for the mutual benefit of both nations.
