Prabowo Subianto, President of Indonesia, expressed his support for the plan proposed by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to bring a large number of Brazilian entrepreneurs to Indonesia. This statement was made after a bilateral meeting between Prabowo and Lula at Palácio do Planalto in Brasília. Prabowo welcomed the initiative, stating that it could enhance cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the areas of trade and investment. He emphasized the potential for tangible and substantial collaboration between Indonesia and Brazil, highlighting common interests and abundant resources shared by both nations.
During the meeting, Prabowo acknowledged the similarities between Indonesia and Brazil in terms of population size, natural resources, and biodiversity. He pointed out that despite signing various cooperation agreements in the past, the collaboration remained largely on paper. However, Prabowo recognized the opportunity to leverage their mutual interests and resources for mutual benefit.
Prabowo also praised Brazil’s advancements in agriculture and bioenergy and expressed Indonesia’s eagerness to learn from the country’s experience. He mentioned Brazil’s innovative use of biofuels and agricultural practices as exemplary and valuable for Indonesia. Additionally, Prabowo appreciated Lula’s support for Indonesia’s plan to send technical teams to study Brazil’s innovations and technologies in agriculture.
Apart from his visit to Brasília, Prabowo attended the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro during his time in Brazil. President Lula is expected to visit Indonesia in October, and Prabowo hinted at preparing a special celebration for Lula’s upcoming 80th birthday in Jakarta. The exchange of visits and cooperation between Indonesia and Brazil signifies a positive step towards strengthening economic relations and learning from each other’s successes.
