Prabowo Subianto, President-elect of Indonesia for the 2024-2029 term, along with Vice President-elect, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, attended the Qatar Economic Forum in Doha on Wednesday (15/4/2024).
During the event, Prabowo, who was one of the speakers, was asked about his upcoming leadership style. Prabowo assured that he would remain true to himself to bring prosperity to the people of Indonesia.
“I will remain true to myself sincerely. That means being loyal to my principles, values, and ideals as a patriot. My main value is the welfare of my people. My people should be safe, not hungry, and must have a decent life. That is the dream of every patriot in every country in the world,” said Prabowo.
Furthermore, Prabowo emphasized that his past as a military man would not influence his policies, including in terms of democracy when leading.
“You know, I left the military more than 25 years ago. In my opinion, my past as a soldier is not relevant and does not affect anything,” Prabowo firmly stated.
“Allow me to ask, why not ask for the opinion of the Indonesian people about democracy? I have participated in four general elections and asked for the people’s approval three times. They did not approve of me. But this time they have given their approval. Where is the concern for democracy? In my opinion, it is only fabricated by a few individuals. So, I will work hard not to disappoint my people. The legacy we want to leave is a good name, a good name in the history of our country,” added Prabowo, followed by applause from the audience.
He stated that his desire to serve is based on sincerity to improve the welfare of the people of Indonesia. He wants to contribute with his insights and leadership experience.
“I was raised in various countries and saw many of them suffer from poverty. In my heart, I cannot accept that in the present time. Indonesia is a member of the G20 and the fourth most populous country in the world. Many of my people still live in great difficulty. That’s what drives me. I want to do my part. I want to contribute with my insights and leadership experience. I am confident that I can make many contributions to improve the welfare of my people,” concluded Prabowo.
