Paskibraka Members from Papua Ready to Make Country Proud

Two high school students from Papua proudly participated in Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day celebrations as members of the elite national flag-raising troop, Pasukan Pengibar Bendera Pusaka (Paskibraka), at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta alongside President Prabowo Subianto. Representing Papua Pegunungan Province is Franciscus Sakfiris Pahabolisage from SMA Negeri 1 Wamena, while Stincek Laramiapa from SMA Negeri 1 Nabire represents Papua Tengah Province.

Expressing their excitement and gratitude, Franciscus mentioned how privileged he felt to witness the ceremony in person, a stark contrast to watching it on television or a phone screen. He acknowledged the rigorous selection process, mentioning the challenges he faced with physical training, an aspect he was not accustomed to.

Stincek, on the other hand, emphasized her commitment to delivering a stellar performance during the flag-raising ceremony. Despite initial doubts about reaching the national level, she was thrilled to be part of the Paskibraka team and valued the camaraderie fostered during training with representatives from all 38 provinces.

Both students expressed their nerves and excitement about meeting the President in person on August 17. However, the joy of earning this opportunity through their hard work and dedication overshadowed any apprehensions they had. Their determination to represent their country with honor and pride was evident in their words, reflecting their readiness to make the nation proud on Independence Day.
