Residents of the Fishermen’s Village in Muara Angke, North Jakarta, expressed their gratitude for the floating and stilt homes given by Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto on Saturday, April 13.
Iwan Susilo, one of the beneficiaries, shared his joy, expressing that he could never afford to build such a house on his own and sometimes struggles to afford food. Delina, another resident, also conveyed happiness for the help they received from Prabowo, stating that they are happy with the new homes provided for their community.
In addition to the houses, the residents also received Eid gift packages that included educational supplies for children. The children thanked Prabowo as they showed off their new school bags.
Annisa, another villager, detailed the contents of the packages, which included school essentials like pencil cases, books, and socks. A total of 16 floating homes and 12 stilt homes were given to 18 families or 80 individuals, covering an area of 9 square meters each.
The initiative aims to improve the welfare of the local community, which is often affected by flood disasters and erosion. The project also involved developing green public spaces and amenities such as a desalination unit to provide fresh water for the villagers.
